Saving it For Good

At a pop-up in Lethbridge, Alberta, an amazing client booked in for a fitting. She was tall, curvy and chesty, reminding me a little of myself (in fact I think we have the same 42Gs). She had a smile that lit up our pink velvet lined dressing room. Single in early 40s, independent as ever, and starting a new venture in southern Alberta. Her passion was written all over.
She was desperate for a bra that fit her breasts, was comfortable and beautiful – nothing beige for her. She ended up with a Curvy Couture sheer mesh unlined bra in hot pink and an Alexa See-Thru Lace in black (the bra I’ve dubbed, the ‘dominatrix bra’). When I posted the Alexa in its bright, deep new ‘Blue Azure” colour, she messaged me immediately for one. Then she told me a little story about that bra.
She said it was her most comfortable bra that she bought from me, but one that she had actually held off from wearing it because she was “saving it for good”. She was waiting for a special event, a hot date or keeping for when she looked or felt a certain way. This would the same as saving the good china for a New Year’s eve buffet, or keeping your iconic Louboutin’s boxed in the closet.
Please don’t save your gorgeous bras for the perfect day.
I wear my Alexa See Thru on the school run, in the most wretched hoodies and holey leggings going, in the freezing cold dead of winter, camouflaged with an oversized full length puffer vest and toque. Sometimes I even grab the matching panties, which have this delicate elastic band above the seam that hugs my hips, clipped in with ornate gold hooks, when I am feeling especially unkind towards my body. I never regret it and love catching a glimpse of myself in it, disheveled or made up.
Thankfully she grabbed that bra and didn’t wait too, too long, because she was come to find out (like several of my Edmonton friends who have bought this stunner), that it is a very comfortable group and supportive everyday bra. It comes in black, vintage rose, hot red, and blue azure, almost one for every day of the school run.
